Decide if Kate's Right for You with Our Mentor Interview

What excites you most about writing?

I love the possibilities writing brings me. Every time I sit down to write, something new can unfold on the page, and I find that so exciting! Writing has also been so therapeutic for me. It’s the medium where I express myself best, and that’s long helped me sort through my busy brain,” Kate said.

What mindset does a writer need to grow?

Understand that writing is a skill that’s constantly developed. It takes practice and study and trial and error, and it doesn’t have an end destination.

What three words best describe you as a mentor?

Kind, enthusiastic, encouraging.”

What makes a good writing mentor?

“I think the key to a great writing mentor is meeting people where they’re at! There is absolutely no single “right way” to write, and being able to meet a mentee wherever they are in their project, story, and experience, and help them find a method that works for them, is crucial!”

What is your style of feedback?

“I provide constructive feedback that focuses on both “wins” and areas to improve. My feedback style is also collaborative. I bring a set of skills to the table, but at the end of the day, mentees know their project best. My goal is to understand their vision then help bring that to life in the best way possible based on their goals.”

What was the most recent "standout" book you read?

I recently read LAST FIRST KISS by Julian Winters and absolutely adored it. It’s a beautiful love story and such an encouraging depiction of self discovery. Highly, highly recommend.
